Cable wake park set to open in Okanagan
You will soon be able to make big splashes at the first cable wake park in the Okanagan.
Whiplash Cable Wake Park in West Kelowna is the first of its kind in B.C. Set to open on June 29, the park touts itself as an environmentally friendly way to enjoy gas-powered, water-based sports.
The wake park is located at the base of the Bennett Bridge and is a track surrounded by towers that hold cables up. Users are then pulled by a carrier and through the water similar to how a T-bar chairlift works.
The park is open to all skill levels, with rails and ramps for more advanced users. There is the option to wakeboard, wake skate, water-ski and kneeboard.
Helmets and lifejackets are required for all users. The new park is set to welcome water sport enthusiasts all summer long and plans are in the works for an expansion next spring.

Abbotsford Opens call for new Wakeboard Cable Park
May 5, 2012: Next summer, Abbotsford's wakeboarders and water-skiers could be skimming across a lake boatless, pulled by a system of cables.
On Monday, city council approved a request by staff to solicit plans from private companies to build and operate a public cable water ski park at Albert Dyck Park.
Stu McKeown, a 32-year-old businessman and wakeboard enthusiast from Surrey, lobbied the park board to submit a request for proposals.
"It's a good location right off the highway near the airport, near the border," said McKeown, who plans to submit his proposal soon. "Unfortunately with the high cost of boats, insurance, gas and that sort of thing and with our limited summer - wake-boarding is not as big up here [in Canada] as it could be."
